Weight Loss Surgery Payment Options in Birmingham, AL

Despite decades of evidence showing that weight loss surgery effectively treats conditions like type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, many insurance companies still don’t cover it. And for those that do, the requirements are anything but straightforward.

Paying out of pocket changes that. It puts the timeline back in your hands, eliminates the lengthy pre-approval process, and lets you start working toward lasting results without jumping through hoops.

An administrative fee will be added to the total procedure cost for payments made by credit card.

Transform Your Life with BMI Priority Pass®

BMI’s Priority Pass provides you with a consultation and surgery within 2 days. Easy to qualify, condensed timeline, safe and effective with 5-star reviews.

Learn About Priority Pass

$7,999 Cash Pricing For Sleeve Gastrectomy

The $7,999 self-pay price covers the core costs of your procedure so there are no surprises on the day of surgery. That includes your pre-operative testing (blood work and EKG if needed), surgeon fee, anesthesiologist fee, surgery center fee, and monthly support group meetings.

Post-operative visits are also covered for the 90 days following your procedure, unless you’re enrolled in BMI Priority Pass. After that window, follow-up visits are billed at $125 per visit — typically at six months post-surgery and then annually going forward.

  • Pre-operative testing, including blood work and EKG if necessary
  • Surgeon fee
  • Anesthesiologist fee
  • Surgery center fee
  • Post-operative visits for 90 days following surgery
  • Monthly support group meetings
  • Hospital Setting: Not all patients are candidates for outpatient surgery. If your procedure needs to be performed at St. Vincent’s East rather than our outpatient surgery center, the total price adjusts to $9,999 for outpatient or $12,800 for a one-night hospital stay.
  • Prior Procedures: If you’ve previously had a gastric band placed and removed, or a prior fundoplication for reflux, an additional $1,000 will be added due to the increased complexity of the surgery.
  • Hiatal Hernia Repair: If a hiatal hernia is discovered during your sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass, it will be repaired at the same time. That repair will be billed to your insurance. If you don’t have insurance, an additional $500 will apply.
  • Post-Operative Lab Work: Nutritional labs are performed at 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. These are billed through insurance or offered at a cash pay rate.

$5,999 Cash Pricing For Orbera

The Orbera pricing covers the full insertion and removal of the balloon over the six-month treatment period. All three core procedure costs are included with no hidden fees.

  • Surgeon fee
  • Anesthesiologist fee
  • Surgery center fee

We strongly recommend pairing your balloon treatment with Orbera Coach. This is a monthly one-on-one telemeeting with a registered dietician to help you build the habits that produce results while the balloon is in place and maintain them after it’s removed.

This twelve-month nutritional program is available for $750 and is not included in the procedure listed above.

Not all patients are candidates for Orbera.

Orbera is performed entirely on an outpatient basis, so no hospital stay is required.

$19,999 Cash Pricing For LAP-BAND

Included in the cost:

  • Pre-operative testing, including blood work and EKG if necessary
  • Pre-operative nutrition evaluation

  • Anesthesiologist fee
  • Surgery center fee

  • Monthly support group meetings

$15,999 Cash Pricing For Gastric Bypass

Included in the cost:

  • Pre-operative testing, including blood work and EKG if necessary
  • Pre-operative nutrition evaluation
  • Surgeon fee
  • Anesthesiologist fee
  • Hospital fee with one night in the hospital after surgery
  • Post-operative visit with a nutritionist within four weeks of surgery
  • Monthly support group meetings

Cash Pricing For Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

Revisional surgery pricing covers the same core costs across all procedures, so you know exactly what you’re getting regardless of which revision path is right for you. Included in the cost:

  • Pre-operative testing, including blood work and EKG if necessary
  • Pre-operative nutrition evaluation
  • Surgeon fee
  • Anesthesiologist fee
  • Facility fee
  • Post-operative visit with a nutritionist within four weeks of surgery
  • Monthly support group meetings

Because revisional surgery varies in complexity depending on what’s being done, pricing is determined by the specific procedure performed. Here’s the breakdown of current cash pricing:

  • LAP-BAND removal and conversion to sleeve gastrectomy (outpatient) → $10,999
  • LAP-BAND removal and conversion to sleeve gastrectomy (one-night stay) → $15,999
  • LAP-BAND removal and conversion to laparoscopic gastric bypass (one-night stay) → $16,999
  • Sleeve gastrectomy conversion to laparoscopic gastric bypass (one-night stay) → $15,999
  • LAP-BAND removal only (outpatient) → $3,999
